Making music together

A duet puts two people in the same project, each in their own browser. Every note, clip and knob either of you changes reaches the other, so you can build a song together: one on the beat, one on the tune.

Not on the live site yet

Duets need a room service to connect the two browsers, and it is not running on the live site yet. Until it is, Invite a partner says: Duets are not available on this site yet. Everything below describes how a duet works, and will apply as soon as it is switched on.

Starting a duet

  1. Open the project you want to share. Your own saved copy stays as it is.
  2. Press Invite a partner in the project bar. The duet starts from a checkpoint of your project, and an invitation link is copied for you and shown under Invitation.
  3. Send the link to your partner.
  4. Press Enable my sound when you are ready to listen.

TipIf the studio says to wait for your last edit to finish sending, give it a moment and press Invite a partner again.

Joining a duet

  1. Open the invitation link. The project bar shows Join this duet.
  2. Press it. You are now both in the same song.
  3. Press Enable my sound. The studio prepares the song’s sounds, including any samples, then you can play.

Turns on sound in your browser. Each person does this for themselves.
My volume
How loud the song is for you. It changes nothing for your partner, and nothing in the saved mix or an export.
Work locally
Leaves the duet and carries on with a local copy of the song. Save it as a project to keep that version.

What you share, and what stays yours

  • Shared: every note and drum hit, parts and clips, sounds and the mix, groove, automation, mastering and creative effects.
  • Shared: play, stop, where the song is and its tempo. A duet always plays the arrangement, so Pattern mode is off while you are together.
  • Yours alone: My volume, which tool you have open, and anything you audition without recording it.
  • Undo is your own. It takes back your edits, never your partner’s.

Writing well together

  • Agree who takes what: one of you on drums and bass, the other on melody and chords.
  • Use separate patterns for separate ideas, then meet in Arrange to put them in order.
  • Talk about changes to shared things, such as the tempo or the mix, before making them.
  • A duet holds two people and up to 8 samples of 2 MB each (6 MB in all).
