The music studio manual
How to make music.
Each chapter teaches one part of the studio. Press Play on its demo to watch it done and hear the result, then read on for the details. Start at the beginning, or jump to whatever you need.
- 01 Getting started Open the studio, find your way around the desk and play your first loop.
- 02 Your first beat Place kicks, snares and hats in the Drums tool, and shape how each drum sounds.
- 03 Writing a melody Place, move and lengthen notes on the piano roll, and use a scale to stay in tune.
- 04 Chords and bass Stamp chords on the Harmony part, write a bass line under them, and move parts around.
- 05 Shaping sounds Presets, envelopes, pulse width, vibrato and the expanded synths, with what a filter and an LFO really do.
- 06 Samples and recording Record or load your own sounds, then play them as instruments, pads and drums.
- 07 Inspire me Let the studio write melodies, beats, bass lines and whole song sketches for you to keep or change.
- 08 Arranging a song Turn loops into a song: patterns, variations, clips on the timeline, and Song mode.
- 09 Groove and movement Swing, groove and automation: timing that feels human and sounds that change as the song plays.
- 10 Mixing Balance your parts with level, pan, filters, width and effects so each one can be heard.
- 11 Finishing and sharing Save your projects, keep files, export a WAV and master your song.
- 12 Making music together Invite a partner into your project and write the same song at the same time.
- 13 Shortcuts and MIDI Work faster with the keyboard, jump between tools, import MIDI files and play a MIDI keyboard.
